Movie based games normally aren’t as good as they appear, but when a developer gets that movie and game combination just right, they can amaze everyone with their final product. X-Men Origins: Wolverine is just that kind of game, but instead of some hand-me-down PG-13 character, you get a Wolverine that stays true to Wolverine. Because of this, “the kiddies” can’t take on this role of Wolverine – thanks to some very brutal decapitations – but that just sucks for them.

Following events from the film, the game tosses you in into the tattered white tank top of Weapon X in a setting all too familiar from the movie. However, X-Men Origins adds a lot of back story into it. The game centers around the time when Logan was running with his commanding officer Stryker and Sabertooth doing animalistic missions within Africa. But that isn’t all, the title also follows Lugan’s turn from the group for a better life – but we all know how that turns out. So now, he’s on a one man mission of revenge. However, for some reason, the game finds away to pop in and out of these timelines, which sometimes can get a bit tedious.

Luckily, this game isn’t much about story; it’s mostly about hacking ‘n’ slashing your way though waves and waves of enemies. Thanks to some quick reaction, combat provides enough variety in its moves to keep things up to speed and interesting, while the ability to unlock special moves and upgrade them with points earned by experience offers an rewarding sense of progress. But without some of these controls such as the game’s lunges, blocks, rolls, and special moves – handled by shoulder buttons and triggers – the controls feel sufficiently different to most other hack ‘n’ slash titles. And once you get the hang of things, you’ll soon find yourself a pro.

Another thing that’s interesting about X-Men Origins is the new health system they have finally given to Wolverine. Like before there is a heath bar, but you won’t need it because Wolverine has the ability to heal in-game. When bullets fly into Wolverine, the holes appear in his chest and they begin to bleed out. Along this, you can also see the shirt being torn off of Logan back as enemy bullets and explosions hit him.

When playing thought this game, I found that there there hasn’t been much work on the characters within the design department. There are three character types that aren’t bosses, and depending on which mission you are on, there are different character skins you will be able to fight. Don’t get me wrong, there are many special moves and attacks that you can utilise, but you can only do something for so long before you get bored of it. This is want happens with X-Men Origins. Sure, adding new character skins in the mix is a nice aspect, but there’s aren’t that many of them to keep things fresh.

Closing Statement:

There’s only so much you can ask from a movie game, but lucky, X-Men Origins is able to capture them all well. When I was playing though this game I was surprised by all the things they’ve added to give the game replay valve. I played though this game twice: the first to beat it, and the second to find all the extra collectables and ablites. There have been very few movie games that people can consider good, however I’m happy to tell you that X-Men Origins: Wolverine happens to be one of these games.

According to Variety, Ryan Reynolds will be starring in his very own X-Men spinoff movie for the role he played in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Deadpool. 

Deadpool, also known as Wade Wilson, is a mercenary who is dying of cancer and he submits himself to the Weapon X genetic alteration experiment and he emerges as an indestructible semi-sane anti-hero.

The movie will be produced by Lauren Shuler Donner and Marvel.

However, in one of the endings of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Deadpool is seen rising from the rubble of a destoryed building and whispering “Shhh…” to audiences, which we think was a poke to the fans of the movie. 

Beside being leaked on the internet a couple of weeks ago, it seems that it didn’t stop the beast from unleashing in the box office this weekend.

According to USA Today, the fourth movie in the X-Men franchise, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, took in an estimated $87 million in the box office since its release on friday, which, in short, means that the movie surpassed the studios expectations of $70 million – but, sadly, it still didn’t meet the standards set by Iron Man last year ($98.6 million).

“We sweated this one out,” says Chris Aronson, senior vice president of distributor 20th Century Fox. “But the exit polls are terrific, with nearly half the audience saying it’s better than they had expected. It really comes back to Hugh (Jackman). I think audiences have a tremendous appetite for both Hugh and his character, Wolverine, that he really created.”

The downloadable content code will give you the ability to take your opponents out in the ‘The Dismemberment Room’ along with other ‘exclusive’ in-game rooms (listed below)- only at GameStop. And to access these rooms players will be loaded into a hallway which acts like a doorway to each room.

• The Dismemberment Room: “Using a control panel, this room lets players select various limbs and body parts on a holographic soldier. Once the selections are locked in, the soldier appears in a tiled room viewed through a glass wall. The selected limbs are severed with spectacular results.”
• The Environmental Kill Room: “This large room features small set-ups of each of the various environments found within the main game. All of these environments contain sharp objects on which Wolverine can impale his enemies. By pushing a red button, players can teleport in a group of soldiers and hurl them against the sharp objects to see them creatively skewered.”
• The Ladder Challenge Room: “Pushing a red button will cause a group of enemies to beam into the room. Each time the red button is pushed, the enemies get tougher and more numerous, laddering up the challenge for Wolverine.”
• The Custom Combat Arena: “This huge space lets players select any combination of enemies from within the game, beam them into the arena, and attempt to defeat them. Face ten hulking Leviathans or a blend of towering W.E.N.D.I.G.O. Prototypes, Machete Champions, and Machine gunners.”

At the New York Comic-Con event, Activision showed some new gameplay videos of the upcoming X-Men Origins Wolverine video game, but sadly, they we weren’t allowed to release the video because we needed permission to post it. However, one bold youtuber that attend the press conference, showcasing the game, wasn’t scared to get there hands wet, or in this case bloody, and for that we thank them. Anyway, here are the videos that were demonstration at the conference.

I will have to admit that I did indeed stay up to see this video, but it wasn’t because I was bored and had nothing important to do, example sleeping, it’s because I really want this game to be good, an sometimes even great. Anyway, speaking on it, on the season premiere episode of Game Trailers TV they revealed the first trailer for the upcoming movie game, X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

“X-Men Origins: Wolverine amps up the action by bringing to life Wolverine’s wholly unique skills such as his brute strength, regenerative mutant abilities, and indestructible adamantium claws and skeleton in an immersive experience that is fitting to one of the most enduring and popular characters of all time,” said Rob Kostich, vice president, global brand management, Activision Publishing, Inc.

In past years, super hero movies have made many leaps and bounds pasting for some very interest showings in the video game market. But, they also have been know to be less then entertaining when it comes down to fact, but let’s hope that this isn’t the case with X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Today, X-Men Origins: Wolverine has dipped its nails into the Internet leaving a teaser site in its wake, Uncaged.com. The teaser site reveals an exclusive 3D screen-shot that has been seen before, until now.

And, sadly, that’s all the teaser site had to reveal, but it does display that the full site will be launching soon.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is set to release on the PC, X360, PS3, Wii, PS2, PSP and DS around May 1, which is the movie release date.

It’s truly one of the greatest things about making a video game, when you make a game that is great, and people like an aspect of the game, you are going to see someone make a game with that same style, or something like it. Now, it seems that the video game adaptation of ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ with be taking a page out of the book from God of War.

When speaking to EGM, developers Raven opened up about their upcoming project ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’.

“God of War was an influence. Devil May Cry, even Super Smash Bros., to a point. When we play [games like that], we just like the simplicity. Every character has their basic set of moves — that’s simple. People get that, and mass market gets that, so we’re making sure we bring that to Wolverine,” said Raven.

“People are going to play Wolverine and then be annoyed with how slow other action games are. We’ve gone back and played highly touted action games we all love, and you’re in these attacks forever. And it’s not just the speed — it’s the ease in which you’re able to [break] out of your attacks at any time.”

Over the last couple of months we have heard nothing but whispers on this game, it was not until just recently that we heard that the game would be revealed in the next issue of EGM. But, none the less, we all can’t wait to see this game and all its gory, that is why Activision has revealed the release date for the game.

If you didn’t know, the game is base on the upcoming movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine by Twentieth Century Fox and discernibly the game is set to coincide with the movie in May ’09.

“We have an amazing team with Raven Studios at the helm, creating what will undoubtedly be the quintessential, true-to-character Wolverine video game experience that fans have been craving,” said Rob Kostich, vice president, global brand management, Activision Publishing, Inc.

While many of us are patiently awaiting the official reveal of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves in next months issue of Game Informer, in the next episode of the popular gaming magazine EGM, the official video game for the upcoming movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine will be revealed.

The issue reveals the real-time in-game healing system, the accessible combat system, and some information on a boss fight with the first Sentinel prototype.

There is also an interview with Raven about a few of Origins influences – like God of War and Super Smash Bros. – and a new approach to seamless cinematic in-game cut-scenes that bridge bits of gameplay. There was also some talk about it being the Ninja Gaiden of Wolverine.

Recently, there was also an interview with Jeff Katz, occasional comics writer, by MTV and he stated something about the game.

“A couple of the Fox execs, myself and a couple of the principles involved [in 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine'], we’re all gamers,” said Katz. “So when it came to the Wolverine movie game, it was like, Let’s do the coolest possible version of an X-Men game.”
