After the long-struggle about trying to get the recently released Mortal Kombat title to sell well, its publisher has filed for bankruptcy this morning, calling it a ‘difficult but necessary decision.’

“We have been focused on realigning our operations and improving our execution, and this filing will relieve the immediate pressure from our creditors and provide us time for an orderly exploration of our strategic alternatives. This Chapter 11 filing is the next logical step in an ongoing process to address our capital structure,” said Midway Chairman, President and CEO Matt Booty.

“Midway enters this process with strong underlying fundamentals, as evidenced by solid fourth quarter sales that exceeded expectations in spite of a challenging retail and general economic environment,” Booty added. “Overall, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe sales are approaching two million units shipped, TNA iMPACT! has shipped approximately one million units, and our Game Party franchise has sold close to three million units in total.”

Midway expects that Chapter 11 protection will enable the company to conduct its business operations as usual. To that end, Midway is seeking approval from the court for a variety of First Day Motions enabling the company to continue managing its operations in the ordinary course. These motions are typical of the restructuring process, and approval is regularly granted.

Midway has really been hit by some hard times during this downward summit of the economy, it’s about $240 million in debt. And it’s changing ownership giving the publisher’s debtors a chance to call in their loans. But if the publisher can endure this beating, it may find a “hot tag” waiting for it on the other side.

A Midway representative has confirmed to GameSpot that the publisher’s 2009 slate includes not only Vin Diesel, but there is also plans for a second installment to the TNA Impact franchise. However, he did not address platforms or features for the game.

The first game was originally planned for a 2007 release but it had folded into Midway’s San Diego operations towards the end of the development cycle.

However, the first game was promised to be better then THQ’s Smackdown vs Raw series, but sadly the game couldn’t overcome it because of its almost super repetitive game-play. Anyway, speaking on it, let’s hope that this game will be better then the first. Hope to see some game-play soon.

This is an interesting experiment that seem to be giving fans mixed feelings, but that’s okay because all the experimentation is finally over. Today, Miday announced that Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe has gone gold and is scheduled to be available in retail stores throughout North America on November 16, 2008, and throughout Europe on November 21, 2008.

“We are proud to release to manufacturing Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, the culmination of two years of effort and a rewarding collaboration with our friends at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Comics,” said Ed Boon, executive producer and co-creator of the Mortal Kombat franchise.

Street Fighter wasn’t the only fighting franchise making big waves this year because Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe has been making waves as well. Today, Midway announced that the next episode of the Mortal Kombat franchise will be making it’s way onto the PS3 and Xbox 360 on Nov. 16. Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe will be the first time that Mortal Kombat makes an appearance on the next-gen systems. The whole narrative of the game has to do will the choices you make as both a DC Universe Super Hero/Villain or Mortal Kombat Hero/Villain.

Breaking bones, pumping steroids, throwing your helmet, mooning the crowds and celebrating by throwing parties. This just happens to be the “Blitz way” and thank god for it. The game fellows the story of a hot shot rookie as you basically make your way up the ladder. Throughout your campaign, there are a series of movies updates to the plot, but there isn’t much detail to them. But, somehow this game finds away of being somewhat compelling and gives you some interesting cut sences.

There’s also a little Q&A test and your answers will determine if you are a quarterback, receiver or whatever position you can get, but this can only be accounted for in “Franchise” mode. The main idea for the “Franchise” mode is to impress the scouts and PA’s to get you the big sponsors, cash and girlfriends so you can live the life.

The games control system is somewhat simple and it keeps you playing the game for hours on end. The guys at Midway also intergrated a simple yet easy passing, running, and defense system, which you would find in Madden. On the top of the screen the game does feature a “unleash bar”, when fulled the bar slows down time and enables you to pull off some more complex moves. But, each depends on your position.

The graphics are a bold improvement from the last version of the game, the graphics truly rival most other high end titles of it’s brand. The game has numerous player sizes and collision detection, which adds for some very interesting challenges and match ups for good tackling. When pulling off a good tackle the game will go into a 3D action x-ray mode, which helps add to the brutality.

With many new features like new teams which includes the Los Angeles Riot, The Houston Riders, Vancouver Beavers, Milwaukee Hounds and Atlanta 404. Also many new features like: realistic injuries, minigames to heal or juice characters, which in today’s world is very illegal. The ability create touchdown combos, and to create your OWN player, new team and etc.

Blitz: The League II is very entertaining at some points and it’s list of new features  will surely help you in the future. The game does have some great customization points as well as some very weak points. This game is only prefect in the eye of the beholder and to this beholder it’s mediocre. But, other then some weak points you should really give this game a try and if you don’t like it feel free to return it.

Boon goes onto say why the game was scrapped, MK8 was scrapped when the DC Comics deal solidified. Meaning that if DC Comics didn’t “solidified” the deal we would have gotten a “gritty” and more “serious” Mortal Kombat game.

In an interview with GameTap, Ed Boon told them that finisher will appear in the next Mortal Kombat game, MK vs. DC Universe. Heres what he had to say “There was never any statement on our part that fatalities will be gone or that finishing moves will be gone.”

“We did acknowledge that we won’t be able to do the same kinds of outrageous moves, like tearing someone’s head off and the spine being attached to it.” he added “But there are a lot of assumptions that there will be no blood in the game, that there are no fatalities in the game.
