It’s official: Drew Brees is the Madden NFL 11 cover athlete. And, apparently, he’s ecstatic about it — besides the infamous Madden curse. Last week, Electronic Arts revealed that Super Bowl XLIV MVP, Drew Brees, will be gracing the cover of the upcoming Madden NFL installment, Madden NFL 11. In response, Brees said this:

“I think the atmosphere of a game, where you step out on the field and you hear the crowd noise, is really special,” said Brees. “Then when you throw a touchdown and run into that end zone and jump on a teammate … that interaction and that atmosphere is obviously something where you have to be there to feel.”

“But to me, being in ‘Madden’ is just another way to connect with the fans. It helps educates the fans about the plays, the players, the teams. I have a Wii, and when my son gets older, it’s going to be fun to be able to play the game together. I have a feeling he’s going to be a gamer pretty soon,” he added.

The Madden NFL 11 cover adds to the long list of Brees’ triumphs, coming five years after his career was almost ended during a game with the San Diego Chargers. However, such mishaps will certainly be on the minds of his fans, due to the so-called “Madden Curse” that has afflicted many players who have chosen to grace the cover.

Recovering from an debilitating first half, the New Orleans Saints marched down the field, both offensively and defensively, giving them the victory over the Indianapolis Colts; winning the teams its first Super Bowl championship, as predicted by the Madden NFL Super Bowl simulation.

“We played for so much more than ourselves. We played for our city. We played for the entire Gulf Coast region. We played for ‘Who Dat’ nation,” said Drew Brees, Saints Quarterback and Super Bowl MVP. “The city was 85 percent under water, most of the population moved to other cities, and none of them knew if they’d ever come back. It’s just an amazing feeling.”

However, the simulation predicted that there would be “offensive fireworks” from both sides of the field but, as you could tell, Super Bowl XLIV was pretty much one sided, for the most part. But, on the other hand, the simulation was right about Drew Brees taking home the MVP title.

“I’ve never even thrown for six touchdowns in ‘Madden,’” Brees told ESPN after throwing six touchdowns in real life against the Lions. “I’ve had people throw six touchdowns on me, but I’ve never thrown that many in ‘Madden.’ Fans tell me that my ‘Madden‘ character is all souped-up in the game, and it’s pretty crazy to sit there and see how cool the graphics look, but I guess I’m just not very good at playing as myself.”

Madden NFL is virtually everywhere, it’s even on the iPhone; and, now it’s coming to Facebook. Peter Moore, president of EA Sports, revealed that they’re planning a Facebook installment of the Madden NFL franchise. “We have to make ‘Madden’ more accessible,” Moore said. “You’ll see us on Facebook going forward.”

A Facebook version of Madden would deliver a “simpler experience” as its the console counterparts, relayed Moore. That said, when asking about a release date, David Tinson, a spokesman for EA Sports, told Bloomberg that an official announcement, or release date hasn’t been decided, yet.

After multiple weeks of speculation, we have finally learned that Troy Polamalu of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Larry Fitzgerald of the Arizona Cardinals will be sharing the cover of the Madden NFL 2010.

It’s the first time in 21 years that EA has decided on two athletes for the Madden cover. However, Grand Slam Tennis and Fight Night Round 4 -  which are both releasing this year - also feature multiple athletes on their respective covers.

Wait!?!? These are the same two players from the same two teams that were in this year’s Super Bowl. What are the chances?

According to details revealed in the upcoming GameInformer magazine, Madden 09 is set to have an IQ test but, unlike the other IQ test you have taking in Madden games this one will determine how hard the game will be for the user. This new system is called Madden IQ. The test will be taken at the beginning of the game in the form of a challenge/game and jugging by how good or bad the player performs you will then be given an IQ score. The IQ score is then given to the computer which then determines how the computer will challenge the user during gameplay.
