After a GDC Europe presentation on how Remedy handles intellectual property, Remedy’s Managing Director Matias Myllyrinne confirmed to Joystiq that Alan Wake is finished, and it is getting polished for its release. Myllyrinne noted this to Joystiq that, “It’s all done, we’re just polishing at this point.”

If you didn’t know, the polish time for a game is six months, which leaves a lot of time before its “spring 2010″ launch. Anyway, Alan Wake a psychological action thriller from Remedy and is due out in spring of 2010.

With the closing of Midway Newcastle, Midway has confirmed to EndSights that the Necessary Force intellectual property remains the sole property of their company, and they are advertising the IP for sale.

“At this point it remains an asset of Midway and is available for purchase. We have not disclosed any other plans for the IP,” Midway spokesman Geoffrey Mogilner told EndSights.

Necessary Force was announced mid last month and arose with some very high expectations; one being the savior of Midway Newcastle.

The developer of such games as Brothers in Arms and Borderlands, Gearbox recently filed for a quartet of “War Hero” trademarks. However, they have now confirmed to Shacknews that the new franchise is “something down the road.”

Explaining that the trademarks reveal “a bit about our interests in the development of another original intellectual property,” Gearbox Software president Randy Pitchford said that “we haven’t even talked to any potential partners” in regards to War Hero.

“So we’re certainly not ready to talk about it publicly at the moment,” he noted.

Pitchford further tells Shacknews that War Hero is not among the three mystery projects currently listed on Gearbox’s “games in development” page.

Pitchford added that the studio is currently “all gaga” over its October-due shooter-RPG Borderlands, with attentions “focused squarely on kicking ass.”

Well, this holiday season isn’t as white as it should of been for video game publisher and developer EA, but besides all of its problems they processed to try an fulfill the needs of their Mirror’s Edge fans.

Yesterday, EA confirmed that Mirror’s Edge will be seeing a follow-up, but on the downside, it’s sad to see the company announcing this in the face of a disappointing holiday sales rate.

“While we saw significant improvement in the overall quality of our key products this year, we are disappointed that our holiday slate is not meeting our sales expectations,” said EA CEO John Riccitiello to GI.biz. “Given this performance and the uncertain economic environment, we are taking steps to reduce our cost structure and improve the profitability of our business.”

However, despite slow sales the warm critical reception afforded to Mirror’s Edge will ensure a sequel.

“Many times with a new intellectual property, the first edition doesn’t generate the units that subsequent editions could generate,” Riccitiello continued, “Mirror’s Edge is one that was very strongly reviewed, that one’s going to go forward. We’re probably going to look into some issues around the design to make sure strong IP is married with strong business.”

Today, DREAMWORKS and PARAMOUNT PICTURES announced that Transformers will be headed to Blu-Ray this September as a two disc special edition Blu-Ray movie. There was no information about what would be contained in the special edition movie combo but many would speculate that there would be a trailer for the upcoming Transformers 2 movie.
