Activision’s Modern Warfare 2 has become the biggest launch title in entertainment history; something that comes as no surprise, seeing that Activision is the worlds biggest video game publisher because of the Call of Duty franchise.

In its first day, the game sold an estimated 4.7 million copies in North America and in the UK, reports internal Activision estimates, with estimated sell-through sales of $310 million in North America and the UK alone in the first 24 hours. Meaning that, this could mean that Modern Warfare 2 did sell the recent estimated 7 million copies worldwide on day one - this report only covers the UK and North America sales, not the entire planet’s day one sale of the game.

“The Call of Dutyfranchise has become a cultural phenomenon showing the power of video games as an entertainment medium,” said Mike Griffith, CEO, Activision. “The shattering of these entertainment records is a testament to the compelling, cinematic and uniquely engaging experience that the Call of Duty brand delivers. Modern Warfare 2 has taken interactive experience to unprecedented heights setting a new standard for entertainment.”

But, the question still remains. How much did Modern Warfare 2 sell worldwide on day one?

[Nuke Your Opponents in Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer [Spoilers] via Hot Blooded Gaming]

Spoiler Warning: Leaked footage of Modern Warfare 2 showcased a playable art of terrorism; in where the player would shoot innocent civilians in an airport. Activision has since explained the propose of the scene stating that it’s “designed to evoke the atrocities of terrorism”.

However, those that aren’t sure they can handle the scene, they’ve revealed that the scene is completely skippable. “At the beginning of the game, players encounter a mandatory ‘checkpoint’ in which they are warned that an upcoming segment may contain disturbing elements and they can choose not to engage in the gameplay that involves this scene,” an Activision spokesperson told IGN.

This means that players can “opt-out” of the level entirely – we won’t know for sure until MW2 releases in November . However, Activision has made it clear that “[this] is not representative of the overall gameplay experience in [MW2]“, meaning that this will be the only time you’ll be killing citizens in the game.

Forget about Resistance 3, it’s about Killzone 3. According to E4G (Everything for Gamers), in the December ‘09 issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine, a source close to the mag reveals that Killzone 3 is “deep in development” over at Guerilla Games.

Along with that, the magazine also hints at a Call of Duty: World at War sequel, much like what Infinity Ward did with Modern Warfare 2.

“Insider slips reveal three big names you can already pencil for the next year. Killzone 3 is reportedly deep in development, Insomniac’s Full Moon Show podcast hints at a project we can only conclude is Resistance 3,and a Treyarch employee’s online mentions a Call of Duty: World at World sequel,” reads the magazine.

If Killzone 3 is actually “deep in development”, this would mean that we could expect an announcement of somekind within 2010. Let the speculation begin.

Prepare for the ultimate invasion! The most anticipated game of the year and the sequel to the best-selling first-person action game of all time, Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare 2 will strike worldwide on November 10, 2009. And, MAN!, November 10th can’t come soon enough.

Infinity Ward announced during a press event in Los Angeles tonight, that with the release of Modern Warfare 2, Microsoft is planning to release a new Xbox 360 model based on the upcoming game.

This new bundle (to be available in both North America and Europe) comes with an Elite console marked Modern Warfare 2 branding (seen above), a 250GB HDD (hard dive), a copy of Modern Warfare 2, and two wireless Black controllers. And it will be available for $399.

“It’s the highest compliment to the team and our fans to have a special themed Xbox 360 console,” said Vince Zampella, CEO of Infinity Ward. “The precision and detail that’s been put into the console captures the intensity and feel of ‘Modern Warfare 2.’ We can’t wait for our community and fans around the world to see for themselves on Nov. 10.”

With a name such as “Prestige” the only conclusion is that it would cost an arm and a leg. To add to that, there’s the fact that it comes fully packed with a pair of “fully functional night version goggles”. Seems like it’s going to cost alot, doesn’t it.

So what’s the cost Infinity Ward? Their response; a reasonable price.

To get the “Prestige” version, which includes an art book, limited Steelbook case and a token to download the original Call of Duty, plus the “fully functional” night version goggles, you should expect to pay $149 USD, almost twice that of the $79 “Hardened” edition.

Infinity Ward also confirmed, via its Twitter account, that the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network versions of the original Call of Duty will have multiplayer support.

A video showcasing the un-boxing of Modern Warfare 2’s Prestige Edition was posted to the internet yesterday.

This is the most expensive edition of Modern Warfare 2 and comes packed with the Harden Edition of the game, an exclusive art book, and a fohawk head to put your pair of working night vision goggles on. Yes, you heard right, working night vision goggles.

Anyway,  this collector’s bundle seems to be one of the most ambitious bundles ever published. However, without a price point, who knows if this bundle is worth the price? All I know is, it would take a ridiculous price point to get me away from buying a pair of working night vision goggles with my video game.

After improperly ditching the “Call of Duty” trademark for the last couple of months, the trademark somehow finds its way on to the official packaging for Modern Warfare 2. Turning Modern Warfare 2 into Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

However, in the past couple of months, its developer, along with its publisher, proclaimed that Modern Warfare 2 “has taken on such a life of its own.” So what’s up with the change of heart Infinity Ward and Activision?

“Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare 2 is the direct sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare,” a spokesperson told Kotaku. “We have focused our attention on Modern Warfare in order to most effectively communicate the fact that this is the first true sequel in the Call of Duty series.

As much as I hate to admit it, this doesn’t really explain much, or even anything. However, one can only wonder. Is this a direct cause to the recent brand awareness survey?

When it comes to holiday releases only the strong can make it out alive. That’s why Activision has bumped Singularity’s release date, because they do not want Modern Warfare 2’s release getting in the way of Singularity being a success.

According to Kotaku, Activision has today opened a time portal for Singularity, moving it to Q1 2010, well out of range of Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare 2.

“The level of excitement for Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare 2 coming out of E3 well exceeded our expectations and therefore we have decided to move Raven’s upcoming sci-fi first person action title, Singularity, from 2009 to Q1 2010,” said an Activision spokesperson to Kotaku.

“We believe that the March quarter will provide a better opportunity to establish the new cutting-edge action IP as a ‘must-have’ title and clears the way for Modern Warfare 2 to dominate this holiday season.”

Leading global publisher of mobile games, Glu has announced its plans to release a Modern Warfare 2 mobile game, published as part of the company’s expanded partnership with Activision.

“Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare 2 is one of the most anticipated entertainment properties of the year and the Glu team is excited to develop a mobile game for this blockbuster title for fans of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare franchise,” said Jill Braff, senior vice president, global publishing, Glu Mobile.

The mobile title will be available in Q4 2009 and will be published worldwide for carriers and application stores that support Android, Blackberry, BREW, J2ME and Windows Mobile.

Alright. Modern Warfare 2 may seem to capture image of war, but studio head Vince Zampella says that with Modern Warfare 2 Infinity Ward aims for entertainment, not realism.

“We go for authenticity not realism,” Zampella told Official PlayStation Magazine. “We’re not making a sim, we’re making entertainment. We want it to look real like an action movie.”

Zamplella explains why the futuristic weapons don’t ruin the game’s authenticity. “You see a guy in an action movie, what he does is a little over the top. It makes for a great movie.”

It’s time. After god knows how long since the teaser that shocked the inter-web, the Eastern Conference Final is finally upon us. During the end beginning of the second third fourth quarter of the Eastern Conference Final millions of fans and gamers were left at the edge of their seats with this very Modern Warfare 2 trailer.

In the shadow of being brutally teased earlier on today, it seems that even the developers at Infinity Ward just can’t let it end – but this time it was worth the wait.

As promised by Geoff Keighley, in this weeks episode of the much anticipated GameTrailers TV, it featured a teaser for Infinity Wards upcoming title Modern Warfare 2, the sequel to ’07’s Call of Duty 4. However, once again, the teaser doesn’t fill your gut because during the Easter Conference Final on May 24 we’d be able to witness the “World Premier” of the title.

That’s right. It seems that we don’t have to wait until E3 to get our hands on the a trailer that shows Modern Warfare 2 in action because on May 24th during the NBA Eastern Conference Finals on TNT we’ll be getting that chance. But, lucky they left us with a little tease, thanks Activision.

Orginal: When at last weeks GDC event in San Francisco, Todd Stevens of Infinity Ward had this to say about Modern Warfare 2’s lead platform.

“Modern Warfare 2 is set to release early this November, and will be on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. The Playstation 3 is our leading platform for Modern Warfare 2. The PS3 version will run smoother and have slightly better visuals than the PC and 360 version. We’ve been working on Modern Warfare 2 ever since we released Call of Duty 4 back in 2007. There were many reports today stating that Modern Warfare 2 has dropped the ‘Call of Duty’ out of its name, so we asked Activision for a reason why they changed the name. Responding, a company spokesperson told us as to the reason why.

“Modern Warfare has taken on such a life of its own, it has become our focus now,” we were told by the company spokesperson. But, sadly, other then that we were reminded that, “it’s too early to release additional details.”

The game is planned to release November 10th 2009. More details will be revealed in our upcoming preview of the title coming god knows when.

Just when you started thinking that things couldn’t get anymore exciting, tonight at the Game Developers Conference, which is still currently taking place in San Francisco, Infinity Ward released the first teaser trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

The teaser trailer doesn’t give us any details on the game, but it did reveal a release date of November 10, 2009 for the game. More information will be coming your way as soon as we get more.

Many were wondering when the developers were going to release anything on the upcoming Call of Duty title, so have no fear because it seems that time is here.

As a part of Activision’s fourth quarter earnings call, an exec said that the second version of Modern Warfare will most likely be hitting fourth quarter ‘09. No details on the title was given, but we do know that the game is going to be awesome, I’m sorry but when it comes to Modern Warfare my fanboy releases itself.

Anyway, if you didn’t remember, a Twitter post by Robert Bowling, he, kinda, confirmed the there is going being a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, but it wasn’t official. But, one can only stop and wonder what they plan for the official announcement.

In such shows as Heroes, Ken Lally, who recently did some mo-cap work in Resident Evil 5, came on to ‘Coin-Op TV’ with a very important secert in the gaming industry.

When talking with ‘losses lips’ Lally revealed that he has been picked to be one of the Voice-Over actors in the next Call of Duty title, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Part 2, I mean 6 or whatever.

If you didn’t know, 24’s Kiefer Sutherland had done some work in Call of Duty: World at War even winning awards for his part.

Although, the next Call of duty hasn’t been officially announced by Activision, it is rumored to be that it’s going to be a sequel to Infinity Ward’s CoD4: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Part 2.

As we all know, Kojima Productions currently is working on a iPhone version of Metal Gear Solid called Metal Gear Solid Touch, but if we look back sometime before the announcement you will probably see a FPS rumor. This was because Kojima had visited the offices of Infinity Ward to do god knows what, earlier that day.

Now, however according to Famitsu, Hideo Kojima tells them that he is working on two new games currently in development at Kojima Productions.

Here is how he said it was going to go down: The title that will be announced first is being made in a style similar to the way his team has already done in the past, while the second will be produced and restructured by Kojima Productions with the overseas market in mind.

Kojima’s current goal for his development team is, “a software house that can compete with the best of the best from America and Europe.” Could one of these be a FPS game?

This week, Hideo Kojima left us with a little note on his company’s website hinting the next Metal Gear game, but it was not a direct notice like of the some other hints, it had you really thinking about what the next game maybe. There was even the question of which platform it was going to be on. But, today there is a rumor going around that the next Metal Gear game will be a first-person shooter.

According to an anonymous poster on the 4chan board, Metal Gear Solid series director Hideo Kojima visited the offices of Infinity Ward to learn more about about first-person shooters, “apparently.”

The purported Infinity Warder wrote – with accompanying photo “proof” of the visit – that Kojima is working on something in the “FPS genre so he came to us to learn and take details from the team.” But, it wouldn’t be the first time that Kojima was rumored to have called upon the Call of Duty developer’s FPS know-how.

Kojima has also dropped by Call of Duty: World At War developer Treyarch, we hear, which is a strong hint about first-person shooter factor. But, is this first-person shooter really the next Metal Gear game?

Robert Bowling from Infinity Ward helps to clarify the details of Kojima’s visit, saying the photo is “legit” but calling the quote that the Metal Gear director was there “to learn” from the developer “bullshit” and “re-donku-lous.”

Question: How are you able to take a hit franchise to present day, make millions of fans, then send it back into the past and keep your fans? Well, first you will have to get all your fans to return to the game. Then you’re going to need the best reason in the world for them to want to buy it and then they’ll tell everyone about the game, and that should do it. And it looks like Treyarch has mastered this skill – no thanks to Infinity Ward’s unfriendly comments that were made last week – but how well did they master it?

Call of Duty games were never really know for long mission or long campaigns, sadly this game doesn’t divert from that fact. The games campaign is still really short, but this time around they really do step up on the voice acting. The game features well known voices from movies like “The Dark Knight” and the hit TV show “24″ and to add to it, it’s very well scripted.

Instead of the normal WWII shooter environment like Normandy and D-Day, Call of Duty: World at War takes place in the Pacific as well as the Red Army’s reversal to Stalingrad. These places give the game some new environments and battle experiences, from sunny beaches and bombed-out cities. But, there’s also a savage part of war and this game doesn’t pass on it one bit. The Japanese soldiers swarm like bees for a hive on to the battlefield, they even play dead and wait for you to walk into their sick little trap, then they’ll get you. Plus it really doesn’t end there, there’s also a very savage Russian Front with plenty of gunning down of wounded and unarmed soldiers by both fronts in the game.

However, World at War really shines in its Multi-player component, which gives you the ability to tackle missions with your friends in co-op or just do a online single or team game. Even if Modern Warfare had, arguably, one of the greatest multiplayer components in history, this game finds away to build, and build on it good. The game still has its ranking system that lets you unlock perks, weapons, and upgrades which you can use to mix and match for your style. Many of us may miss the helicopter which was featured in Modern Warfare, but this game brings in something so much better, dogs. Which swarm around hunting enemy’s to kill, but it’s way more fun to watch then to be attacked.

We can all fight and try to say that this game is better then Modern Warfare, but to do that now will be wrong. The multi-player doesn’t have that big explosion as it did in Modern Warfare, but it does brand something new. The game does have a lot more content then the other game, Modern Warfare, and to boot this is one of the best shooters out their and if you don’t own it now what are you waiting for?

A PC modder from Japan, by the name of Qrysalis, has posted on the Call of Duty forums some lost training missions from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The missions are from re-constructed files from the original training mission for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The video was posted on Youtube, the video shows frag grenades and grenade launchers at the demolition site for demolition practice. Finally, the player will go onto an assault course for some assault practice then go onto meet Captain Price.

According to Joystiq, an Activision PR representative at X08 confirmed that the fifth Call of Duty game will be releasing sometime in November. This just points to the fact that Activision is sticking to their “fall 08″ gap that they set for the game when it was released. If Activision’s November gap is true this could mean that they maybe are trying to release the game the same date as the number one Call of Duty game of all time, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, which released on November the fifth. November is also the release month of Gears of War 2 and Resistance 2, this could mean that Activision will pit it’s games with the other power hitters that will be releasing in that month time frame.

Bobby Kotick, the CEO of Activision Blizzard was very proud to announced that Call of Duty 6 will be developed by Infinity Ward and will be on track for a 2009 release. If you don’t remember, Infinity Ward was the development studio which was behind the Call of Duty franchise and are the mastermind behind Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare.

While this is great news there are still many question that are left to be answered. What time will Call of Duty 6 be placed in? While there is no idea many are rumored to believe that  in 2009 we may be heading the way of the science fiction universe. We already heard the news that Insomniac and Infinity Ward wouldn’t be giving trophy support for Call of Duty 4, Ratchet and Clank and Resistance. Now, it looks like we’ll be adding one of Capcoms games to the list. According to a post made by one of Capcom’s many moderators , it looks like Capcom will not be adding any trophy support for Devil May Cry 4. The moderator told one of their members that trophies are very unlikely because the game already has its own “little trophy system”.

The moderator also told the member that the likelyness of there being trophies in Puzzle Fighter is also very unlikely, mainly because the team working on the game is finish working on everything for the game. But, look up the moderator told the user that SSF2T HD Remix trophy support is still undetermined.

We thought Infinity Ward was taking a break after making Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare , which made game of the year a rumor came in today saying that there working on a brand new sci-fi title.

An insider had a chance to talk to TalkPlayStation and stated “we are currently working on a new sci-fi title, we cannot release any more information as of yet, we may or may not announce it at E3″.

Seeing that Infinity Ward did great wonderful job with the military genre as a whole, we can have faith that they will not let us down if this rumor is true.

Well, what can I say the Spider-Man game franchise has had  it’s up and downs. Now comes a game that can really change it as a whole and it is called Web of Shadows. In development at Shaba Games and Treyarch Corporation, as you can may all know these teams know what they want in the game and are really working very hard for this to be the best Spider-Man game you will ever play.

In this month issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine has some rumors for some upcoming games and games still in development. Let’s take a look.

• A game inspired by slasher films, in which you play as the serial killer, is currently in development.
• Infinity Ward, best known for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, is considering making a brand new sci-fi title.
• Rockstar may buy developer Realtime Worlds and turn APB, its massively multiplayer crime game, into a new GTA edition.
• Capcom is adding more white enemies to Resident Evil 5.
• Uncharted is being made into a film by the same production team behind Three Kings and 12 Monkeys.
• Stop making malaria tablets, Afrirka will be releasing in August, but only in Japan.
• PlayStation 3 achievements called ‘trophies’ – will be unveiled soon, and 70% of games will already be compatible.
