Earleir on today, it was announced that the developers at Piranha Games are planning on using the Infernal Engine on two of their upcoming titles: bass fishing title The Strike, and hunting simulation The Hunt.

“The world of videogames is a varied one. Everyone knows about Ghostbusters, but we at Terminal Reality believe in the extreme versatility of the Infernal Engine,” said Joe Kreiner, VP Sales and Marketing at Terminal Reality.”The inclusion of The Strike fishing pole and The Hunt rifle by Griffin International shows how well the Infernal Engine works with gaming peripherals.”

“We used the Infernal Engine to develop Bass Pro Shops The Strike. The engine was very versatile, allowing us the freedom to create immense environments with a high level of realistic detail,” said Russ Bullock, President of Piranha Games.

Although heavy metal roadie fable Brutal Legend was let go in the Activision-Vivendi merger, Activision still thinks that it has all the rights for the game.

According to the industry weblog The Cut Scene, Activision has sent a later to both EA, who picked up the game after Activision-Vivendi merger, and Double Fine stating that the rights to the game is still under negotiations. Meaning that it debugs EA’s deal, but Double Fine says that it owns the rights to the game.

In the report it says, Activision received payment from Atari to release its rights to Ghostbusters and Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, and may be seeking the same from EA. But, a rep for EA thinks that ‘Activision would try to sue.’

I mean that’s what made Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters. And what should make the game any different?

Appearently, shifting from Sierra to Atari gave Terminal Reality sometime to work on Ghostbusters creepy side. When speaking in London today CVG was told by Drew Haworth of Terminal Reality that, “[Terminal Reality] added some more creepy elements, a couple of more puzzle elements… we feel that the combat is in a very solid spot.”

Ghostbusters: The Game was one of the most unfortunate victims of Activision’s merger with original publisher Vivendi, which left the game floating in limbo, until Atari came to TR’s rescue.

“[The move to Atari] allowed us to go back and tweak and see ‘oh, this experience would be enhanced here by adding more scares, more cooldown areas… – pacing basically. We also upgraded some of the in-game cinematics.” add Haworth.

“It wasn’t frustrating as much as our course has changed now,” Haworth said of the switch. “We were certainly happy to get a new publisher. After Vivendi decided not to publish the game we were surprised more than anything else. It also allows us an extension to polish and improve the quality of the game”.

Now, Atari has confirmed that the game will be releasing in June of next year, which by the is way more specific than “sometime in 2009.” However, the other games dropped by the merger have been pick up for next year release dates.

When speaking at a radio station in Dallas called 105.3 KLLI, Dan Aykroyd, who was in the original Ghostbusters movie, told them that Atari has indeed picked up the publishing rights for Ghostbusters. The game was recently in “limbo” because Activision didn’t have the means to pick the game up after its combination with Vivendi games.
