In 2007, the Games Convention became the biggest European trade and consumer games show, but this year even it couldn’t handle the heat, which can be a number of things.

Today, according to many inside sources (GI.Biz being one), this isn’t a rumor, it looks like the Leipzig Game Convention has officially been cancelled.

“In view of the new situation in terms of competition on the German trade fair market, Leipziger Messe would be dropping the GC – Games Convention from the 2009 calendar,” said Leipziger Messe in a statement.

Also commenting on the matter was the Games Convention CEO, Wolfgang Marzin, saying, “if the industry is again in search of a platform for console and PC games and hardware with the know-how of the GC – Games Convention, we will immediately be available.”

Not so long ago we received news that a Left 4 Dead demo was on it’s way for the Xbox 360 and still we are yet to gain details on the game until now… According to Video Gamer, Gabe Newell, managing director and co-founder of Valve, told them at the Leipzig Games Convention some important details for the Left 4 Dead demo. Newell told them that the Left 4 Dead demo will include the first part of one of the four campaign ‘movies’, most likely The Hospital level that was demonstrated to the press. He also revealed that the demo will home online cooperative play as well as single-player, but he wasn’t able to reveal the release date for the demo.

“We will be releasing demos for both the Xbox and for the PC. I don’t know what the date is for release on that, though. I think it’s going to contain the first part of one of the campaigns. I think it’ll probably be Hospital but I’m not sure. That’s a decision that Doug Lombardi is making.” said Newell. Left 4 Dead is due out for PC and Xbox 360 on November 21 2008.

Without a doubt one of the most anticipated games on PlayStation 3, Killzone 2, is once again ready to pose for some new images. After getting a little taste at the Games Convention, a gaming event, the people over a Guerrilla are ready to give us just a little bigger piece of the pie. For the view point we are given the game really doesn’t disappoint and it seem like every time we see or hear something about this game it’s comes with a screenshot of the game or video. The likeliness of their being a video soon is very high so you can expect to see something new on the game at TGS, a upcoming gaming event. The game is gaped for a February 2009 release date.

On the sidelines of the Games Convention, Konami announced in the pages of Famitsu this week a new episode of the hit series Suikoden for the DS. The game is entitled Genso Suikoden Tierkreis it will feature 3D characters models who are evolved in 2D environments, which is the same kind of designed used for the Pokemon video game series for the DS. The gameplay takes advantage of the DS’s touch screen, the top screen shows character status information. And it will also use the DS stylus system so that you can enter battle commands on the touch screen. The game uses a four person battle system much like in Suikoden IV. It is set in the Kingdom of Salsaville, the game opens at the defeat of the 108 Stars of Destiny at the hands of the game’s villain with only four survivors, not including the new hero. No release date for Genso Suikoden Tierkreis has been given for the moment.

According to Sega Germany, neither the House of the Dead: Overkill or MadWorld will be shipping to retailers in Germany. This news comes after the idea of not showing Gears of War 2 at the upcoming Games Convention in Germany. The likelihood of the games not be shown at the Games Convention in Germany is very high, but it’s still unclear if it will be shown at the event. But, as you may know Germany gamers may have to go out of their way to get their hands on the game, they may even have to go to another country just to get their hands on a wii game.

While we are still preparing for the 2008 edition of the Games Convention in Leipzig, which is scheduled for next week. Today, we have learned that the much anticipated video game, Gears of War 2, will not be part of the show. Indeed, Microsoft and Epic Games have simply decided not to present the game on the spot for the simple reason that the game will not be sold in the country. Go figure.  “Microsoft doesn’t show Gears 2 at Leipzig because they don’t sell the game in Germany,” says Mark Rein, President of Epic Games.

Valve Software announced today that there upcoming co-op zombie shooter Left 4 Dead will would be going on a trip around the world for it’s soon to come out world tour. These series of demonstrations will be held at very high profile events around the world these include Leipzig Games Convention (Germany),Festival du Jeu Video (France) and PC Gamer Showdown (UK), it’s set to make it’s grand debut at this year’s Penny Arcade Expo (PAX).

“The shared experience of Left 4 Dead is unlike that of any other action game,” said Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve. “That’s what we’ve experienced playing the game, and from showing the game to the press and our partners. It sounds cliché, but in many ways you have to play this one to truly appreciate what we’re attempting. So, to give gamers a chance to sample this new type of experience first hand, we’re taking Left 4 Dead on the road.”

In a little over a week we’ll final kick off the 2008 edition of the Games Convention in Leipzig, which as in the same fashion of E3, publishers are beginning to reveal the catalog of games they will present. Bohemia Interactive released a new screenshot for there upcoming military simulation game, which will be released sometime this year and is currently in development for the PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3. While very few details have been released on the game it does have a very strong reputation on the PC, as a game that pushes the maximum realism and putting the player in the middle of true action, like the Call Of Duty franchise. The last time we heard from the game was at the Games Convention in Leipzig 2007, there is a strong chance that there will be word at this years event. Armed Assault 2 will be set in the year 2009.

Armed 2 is based on the latest generation technology, offering large –scale game world, authentic and extremely detailed modern units, weapons, vehicles and enviroments, challenging single player and vast arrays of multiplayer options.
