Question: How are you able to take a hit franchise to present day, make millions of fans, then send it back into the past and keep your fans? Well, first you will have to get all your fans to return to the game. Then you’re going to need the best reason in the world for them to want to buy it and then they’ll tell everyone about the game, and that should do it. And it looks like Treyarch has mastered this skill - no thanks to Infinity Ward’s unfriendly comment that were made last week - but how well did they master it?

Call of Duty games were never really know for long mission or long campaigns, sadly this game doesn’t divert from that fact. The games campaign is still really short, but this time around they really do step up on the voice acting. The game features well known voices from movies like “The Dark Knight” and the hit TV show “24″ and to add to it, it’s very well scripted.

Instead of the normal WWII shooter environment like Normandy and D-Day, Call of Duty: World at War takes place in the Pacific as well as the Red Army’s reversal to Stalingrad. These places give the game some new environments and battle experiences, from sunny beaches and bombed-out cities. But, there’s also a savage part of war and this game doesn’t pass on it one bit. The Japanese soldiers swarm like bees for a hive on to the battlefield, they even play dead and wait for you to walk into their sick little trap, then they’ll get you. Plus it really doesn’t end there, there’s also a very savage Russian Front with plenty of gunning down of wounded and unarmed soldiers by both fronts in the game.

However, World at War really shines in its Multi-player component, which gives you the ability to tackle missions with your friends in co-op or just do a online single or team game. Even if Modern Warfare had, arguably, one of the greatest multiplayer components in history, this game finds away to build, and build on it good. The game still has its ranking system that lets you unlock perks, weapons, and upgrades which you can use to mix and match for your style. Many of us may miss the helicopter which was featured in Modern Warfare, but this game brings in something so much better, dogs. Which swarm around hunting enemy’s to kill, but it’s way more fun to watch then to be attacked.

Closing Statement:

We can all fight and try to say that this game is better then Modern Warfare, but to do that now will be wrong. The multi-player doesn’t have that big explosion as it did in Modern Warfare, but it does brand something new. The game does have a lot more content then the other game, Modern Warfare, and to boot this is one of the best shooters out their and if you don’t own it now what are you waiting for?

Score: A

After all the speculation recently increased when analyst Michael Pachter said that he is “absolutely convinced” that the system is out there. Shigeru Miyamoto was recently interviewed by 3sat and the topic of discussion was about the rumored Wii HD console. Here’s his comments on the rumored Wii HD console:

“…I’m afraid we cannot confirm what we are doing today. But the fact of the matter is that technology is evolving all the time and in Japan, for example…All the analog broadcast will be stopped and shifted into the digital broadcasting. So many things are taking place and we are working in terms of the changes of the technologies all the time.” said Miyamoto.

According to GameDaily, in a conference call Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith provided the company’s expectations for console hardware growth in North America and Europe combined.

Griffith said that while the Xbox 360 is expected to grow by an additional six to seven million units for this calendar year, Sony’s PS3 should grow by eight million units. But, anyway if you were to point to fact neither the PS3 nor the 360 can stack up against the Wii, but it depends on which continues to sell at a torrid pace. But, he does expect the Nintendo Wii to sell by another 15 million units this year.

He also mentioned that Activision believes handhelds will grow by 24 million units, but he did not break that down into DS vs. PSP sales, go figure.

Well, Guitar Hero: World Tour has been out for over a week now and Activision has given us a little gift that’s sure to make fanboys happy. We all have seen the last Guitar Hero commercial with A-Rod, Kobe Bryant, Tony Hawk and Michael Phelps. Now, in the latest Guitar Hero: World Tour commercial Heidi Klum, go Heidi!, dances around in her underwear to “that old time rock n roll.” The video is called to slightly naughtier version of the commercial and is said to be Brett Ratner’s personal “director’s cut”, but if you ask me, there both just as funny.

“It seems like Heidi Klum is going back to her risky roots with her “Risky Business” shirt-and-underwear style Guitar Hero commercial. This slightly naughtier version is Brett Ratner’s personal “director’s cut.” Were all waiting to see if there are more takes hes still holding on to.”

What are the scariest games to play on Halloween? Well, to answer that question you may want to read this list.

10. Silent Hill: The Room

You are locked in your apartment, completely cut off from the outside. It seems that no one else in your building can even hear your cries for help, and you have begun to have terrible nightmares about the very room you are living in.

Finally, you find a way out. No, rather, you find a way deeper into this other realm- the realm of nightmares. True, this game does not follow the same basic formula of its predecessors, and in fact it’s barely has any story links to the classic original, but if you want an experience that has some of the craziest, most disturbing visuals in video game history, you owe it to yourself to play “The Room”. Truly, deeply frightening.

9. Resident Evil 2

It isn’t very often in any form of entertainment when the sequel is better than the original, but this is definately the case with RE:2. I still remember the first time I played this game on my friend’s system, and boy, did I have a blast! The Resident Evil series has always been more about ‘boo!’ scares than truly frightening imagery, but even so, who can deny that fighting a giant blob-like monster straight out of the fifties is tons of fun?

The best aspect of this game for me was how much emphasis was placed on the ’survival’ aspect of the ’survival horror’ label that the game was given. Truly, every bullet counted in this world, and you had to make strategically smart moves along the way, or else you would run out of options for survival later on. Ultimately, this game is much more action-oriented with a bit of a puzzle-solving aspect to it. If you want a classic game that still delivers the scares today, then I suggest you pick up a copy of RE:2 if you manage to find one.

P.S. It’s scarier with the lights off!

8. Fatal Frame

The creators of this Japanese Horror-fest gave a completely different spin on how we saw and played Horror games. In this gem, you play as a girl who is moving throughout haunted locations looking for ghosts. Your means of defense is . . . a camera? :\

Yes, yes, it may not sound all that fun in theory, but truly, play this game for a couple hours and you’ll begin to see what makes it so great. The use of mood and atmosphere is very good here, as well as how sound and visual play intricate parts in giving the player that feeling of dread just before a scare is about to unleash on their timid gamer soul..

It may not be as focused on violence as its fellows within the genre, but “Fatal Frame” delivers if it’s what you’re looking for in a Horror title.

7. Resident Evil: Survivor

This game is tough to address, because many people have alot of problems with it. For one thing, the game is a part of a much bigger series known as biggest Survivor Horror series, yet Capcom made sure that the storyline took place within the gaming experience. As a result, we get a very interesting game story-wise, but a very unusual entry in the RE series due to its completely re-worked and revisioned control scheme.

In this game, you are someone who has no idea who he is or what he is doing here among the zombies. So your goal is to merely find answers. Along the way you will stumble upon clues that will help fill in alot of the gaps, but the first-person perspective in my opinion bumps up the creep factor to the ninth degree.

I have never been so terrified to open a door in my whole gaming life. More often than not, I would end up entering a new room, then hear the sound of raspy breathing right next to me. As the hairs on the back of my neck began to stand up, I had no choice but to look in the direction of the sound. Then– ARGH!!!!

6. BioShock

You are a victim of a plane crash in 1960. You are lucky enough to be the sole survivor of the catastrophe, and among the burning wreckage you manage to see what appears to be a lighthouse and a shore nearby. As you move toward the light, you begin to feel more and more compelled to venture further.

You step inside the tower, and find yourself inexplicably being lowered deeper and deeper underwater by a lift of some sort. This ride leads you into the heart of an underground city known as ‘Rapture’, a place that was envisioned as a paradise where artists and scientists could venture into any curiosity without fear of being reprimanded by a higher authority, but it becomes very clear almost immediately after you take your first steps into the once-happy utopia that something has gone very, very wrong. . .

‘BioShock’ truly is revolutionary because it manages to scare the player without too many cheap moments of merely startling them. Sound is very important in this game, as you can hear the crazed citizens of Rapture talking amongst themselves and/or moving about in the next room before actually seeing them. Other times you will see a long shadow cast on a wall, or you will hear the distant moan of a Big Daddy, and that is when you begin to dread walking any further down your path. The best part about this game is– no undead!

5. Half-Life 2

I know what you’re thinking; Half-Life is more or less an action-oriented game, but let me assure you, HL2 has its moments that send pure fear through one’s body. The most prominent of scary moments in this game is of course the dreaded ‘Ravenholm’; a zombie-infested town that has long been cut off from the rest of the game’s locations, yet you get to take a ’shortcut’ through it’s moaning allyways, oh, goody.

From the terrible screaming of agony from the headcrab zombies to the quick, springy headcrabs that would like nothing more but to swallow your head whole to the strong, cheetah-speed runners referred to as the fast zombies, you will have your survival (and your nervous system) cut out for you in this game.

4. Silent Hill 2

You are James Sunderland, and you have received a letter from your late wife stating that she waits for you in Silent Hill. Personal, searching out the undead incarnation of my nagging significant other within a town that is just crawling with monstrous abominations doesn’t seem like my idea of a vacation, but James here thought it was just what he needed. I guess his life was going a little too normal for his taste, so he needed a good mind-f*ck. This game is argued by many to be the most terrifying of all the Silent Hill entries, and I can definitely see why.

This game was revolutionary in many ways, but something that shouldn’t go unnoticed is the extremely customizable difficulty setting. You can choose to either A: Have extremely difficult enemies and extremely easy puzzles, or B: Have pushovers as enemies and true mind-benders as puzzles. Something that I will never forget about this frightening experience: the sound of metal dragging along the floor announcing the presence of Pyramid Head, the game’s most terrifying enemy. Good times, good times.

3. Dead Space

The newest ’scariest game’, in which you are battling an alien infection aboard a spacecraft that turns crew members into zombie-like antagonists. You’re going to need some diapers if you intend to sit down and play this thing for an extended periods of time.

2. Siren

A truly terrifying experience that is a completely worthy addition to the list. This has been somewhat overlooked for whatever reason, but it still remains one of my favorites. The real-life visuals featured in the game paired with a much stealthier approach at Horror games, playing makes this game a gem worth looking into.

The best part is: a reworked PS3 version of this game is now available for download for PSN in North America and Europe. You owe it to yourself to go and buy it. Off you go.

1. Silent Hill

Yeah, three Silent Hill games in one list may seem like a bit much, but the fact remains that this series has always managed to be the scariest of them all, every time, and that deserves recognition. What better way to tip our hats to this amazing, frightening series than to give the number one spot of our list to the one that started it all?

Well, there you have it, ladies and gents; a comprehensive list of some of the most terrifying virtual experiences available thus far. I hope you enjoy every last one of them. Oh, and . . . you might want to cover the couch with something easily washable.

Today, word has hit the web that Electronic Arts has “massive” layed off 6 percent of its staff, which adds up to be about 600 people.

“EA is continuing to make progress against our business plan, but we have the constant imperative to keep our costs in line as we grow our revenues and improve our margins,” said Electronic Arts spokesperson, Mariam Sughayer. “Decisions that impact people’s jobs are always extremely tough but all of the people affected will be treated fairly and respectfully.”

The spokesperson goes onto reveal that the company has “reduce hiring” and that “open positions that - they - had previously planned to fill this fiscal year” were closed. This is because they are tiring to “adjust employee numbers” to ensure that their resourced in a ways that allows them to continue to grow, revenue-wise.

“These are challenging economic times around the world, and it’s impossible for any business leaders to predict the future. However, EA has made good progress in improving product quality, building a holiday lineup of titles that is extremely strong, filling our new IP pipeline, and expanding our Direct-To-Consumer and online businesses. As well, our talent remains the best in the industry.”

This low stock was caused by the Wii’s, then, very low price and fun factor, but by the looks of things we maybe in for it again this Holiday season. When interviewed by the Los Angeles Times, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime hinted of the fact that there could be a chance that the Nintendo Wii may not be able to meet the demand this Holiday season.

In fact the Wii is still very hard to get your hands on today, Reggie even stated that, “one of our competitors’ projects,” he said (we’re thinking he meant Sony), “they will sell 10 million consoles worldwide this year. For us, that’s three months of production.” And if you add it all up this number doesn’t add up this will mean that they aren’t meeting production standards. Here’s why: the Wii production is suppose to be up 33% over last year, from 1.6 million consoles per month to 2.4 million. That’s why they aren’t meeting the standard.

[Wii production up; holiday supply might not meet demand ... again via Joystiq]

Even if the game is slated for a early 2010 release date the fans still would like to know some details on Travis Touchdown’s newest adventure, No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle. As you may already know, No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle will be the first time that Grasshopper will be doing a sequel. And since they wanted to do a make another game with Travis it’s just right that they do a sequel. The game follows Travis’s path of revenge and this time hes going to get really serious about fighting, unlike the first game. The team that worked on No More Heroes 1 is also working on the second game (same character designer, mecha designer etc.). When the team where working on No More Heroes 1, they felt they had one of the best teams for a Wii title, so they wanted to make another game with the team.

We all may know as Steven E. de Souza has the guy who messed up with the games creditable as a film back in 1994. Well, when he was speaking to the guys at MTV’s Movie Blog he said that “Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li,” will be better then the first movie which was simply entitled “Street Fighter”.

“When we were making the original one, they insisted that all of the characters be in the movie,” de Souza remembered with a sigh. “And if you do the math, that gives you about 7 minutes per character if you split it up equally.”

“I’m envious of this group, because they’re able to construct a movie around a single character rather than a three-ring circus that needs to be lassoed with the story,” he insisted. “It’s a rich universe, and I think it can support all of these versions.”

That’s why according to the latest issue of the famous Japaneses mag, Famitsu, Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop will make an appearance on the Wii in February 2009 in the land of the Rising Sun, which just happens to be Japan. The game was recent announced to feature 100 enemy’s on screen, which isn’t as much as the 360 version. This is because, as you may already know, the Wii can’t push as much as the 360 can but this is only graphic-wise.

This is a much needed DLC that set’s the game higher above the rest in the franchise. Set to be unveiled with this download, the game will interlude a new playable chacter named Proto Man and will add a mode called Endless Attack. While prices have not been announced it’s most likely that the DLC may go for the price of $2.00-$3.00 dollars to reflect the price on Nintendo’s WiiWare service. If you would like more information you’ll just have to wait a little bit longer because the rest of the expected DLC will make its way in the upcoming week of October 20th.

According to Kotaku, during their press conference in San Francisco this morning Nintendo assured that the Wii and DS Lite would be in ample supply this holiday season.

“We have new games and new experiences for every kind of player this holiday season, and that will certainly fuel increased interest in Wii and Nintendo DS,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “While there’s no way to gauge total demand for our hardware systems, we’re trying to satisfy as many of those players as possible.”

The Wii has always hard to get a hold off main because everyone wants a Wii because of it’s motion sensibly and super fun games. Also the Nintendo DS was mainly always in ample supply and with this announcement it looks like it will be pretty easy for you to get your hands on DS this holiday season along with a Wii.

The console also outsold the PlayStation 3 by more than two-to-one in the UK.

Here’s what Chris Lewis, Vice President, Interactive Entertainment Business EMEA, had to say: “This data shows that the Xbox 360 trajectory continues upwards, and not just in the UK. We’ve seen uplift in all countries in Europe and are confident that even at this rate of growth we can keep retail satisfied with a steady supply of consoles throughout the Christmas season. Our commitment to continuously improving and innovating new content, our new high-profile marketing campaign and the fact that we’re now the best-value next-gen console on the market with an entry-level ERP of £129.99 combine to make Xbox 360 the right blend of gaming and wider experiences at the right price to offer unparalleled entertainment for everyone. And these figures prove it.”

The games in the Tom Clancy franchise have been born and reborn onto many of the popular video games systems over the years every since the franchise was made. Now, today in an interview with GameDaily, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot revealed that the Tom Clancy franchise maybe headed to the Nintendo Wii. Here’s what he had to say on the Tom Clancy franchise being reborn on the Wii, “Tom Clancy will appear at one point. We need to make sure they [look good]. We need to make sure they [look good].” As many of us may already know, Nintendo has the most exclusive games on the market right now and it will be to no surprise if we where to see an exclusive Tom Clancy game on the Wii.

After months of waiting patiently this month via Nintendo Power details for Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars have hit the fan. From taking a look at the pics the first thing that came to mind had to do with the gameplay, and could the lower hardware power handle the complexity of the Nintendo DS or the Grand Theft Auto University or could this franchise be compromised. The answer is very simple to answer and that is no it has not. Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown War will feature its classic sandbox style gameplay and to add to the mix a 3D cel-shaded city with a huge array of various cars and a 24 hour different whether affect but it will still bear a M rating from the ESRB. While mission are shorter the game is design for a more frequent play time. There are radio station but instead real music there will be instrumental mainly because MIDI is preference on the DS.

Style controls are to be implement, and aiming will be control by with the pad.You can switch to auto aim by using the R button.User Inference will be handle in an in-game PDA. Players can view their contacts,e-mail,stats,map,GPS, and the music player via the PDA.

On Thursday, Capcom released a shareholder report, which stated that they will no longer be willing to make anymore platform exclusives for all three of the system that are right now out on the market. I know it was hard to believe at the time, but… Yeeah, you get the point. Now, once’s again thanks to the guys over a Nintendo Everything we can sleep happier. According to them, Capcom doesn’t want you to worry about the shareholder report and what was stated from it.

“Relax. I think the materials pretty much speak for themselves and we’re continuing to support all consoles with appropriate content,” said Capcom’s Christian Svnesson. “It just means things that in the past would have been timed exclusives to a single platform will no longer be exclusive to a single platform. It’s just better business decisions at play. I don’t think fans have anything to worry about. That said, I know nothing I say will keep people from freaking out, screaming ‘the sky is falling, OMG!’ So feel free to carry on assuming the worst. I suspect you’ll be pleasantly surprised if you do so.”

As the news is still buzzing around the internet today, Activision Blizzard has unmasked that it has brought out U.K. developer FreeStyleGames. Now, according to a leak, FreeStyleGames could be working on DJ Hero, which was trademarked back in February by Activision, and Kotaku has possible collected the first details for the game. In the details given to Kotaku it states that DJ Hero will be a a music rhythm game that will let gamers scratch to the beat of popular mash-ups with a laptop turntable peripheral. The information goes on to state that the game was in development for nearly two years and is expected to hit shelves next summer. Which will explain the recent buy out of the name by Activision.

They go onto talk about the controls system will likely include the ability to use Guitar Hero guitars for versus mode face-offs. Also it talks about the games control system which will feature nearly a half-dozen iterations. With the device looking a lot like a simplified DJ Deck. There is a platter for scratching which will act like the strum toggle on a Guitar Hero guitar. Above the platter are three buttons for sampling. The controller also includes a cross fader and a sound effects dial which will act like the whammy bar in Guitar Hero.

Instead of flowing the musical notes down a guitar neck, DJ Hero will flow the music down and around a virtual record in a half arc. Either left top to middle bottom if you are left handed, or right top to middle bottom if you are right handed.

Currently the wireless controller has grooves molded into the bottom so it will sit comfortably in a player’s lap, though the team is also looking into legs for the deck so gamers can play while standing up.

Is it the system itself or is it the platform exclusives? Looks like Capcom will no longer be willing to make anymore platform exclusives for all three of the system that are right now out on the market. This report comes from the company’s fiscal year 2008 report, which states that “All major titles launched during the next fiscal year or thereafter will be developed as multi-platform games,”. This comes as no surprise because many games are being dropped off for the multi-platform name like Final Fantasy XIII, which was originally planned for the PlayStation 3, but is now also coming to the Xbox 360, and now to see as a video game company make that change it’s really makes the questions I asked at the begin of this article harder to answer.

But, as a company Capcom will be making more money using multi-platform games to build there company, money-wise. Here’s what Capcom has to say about that “We will aim to increase revenue and dramatically increase the number of users by launching, for example, Resident Evil 5 … Street Fighter IV … and Bionic Commando [on multiple platforms].” It already looks like Capcoms plan may already be in actions because much of there nex-gen games are already get the multi-platform taste.

Some of us were left wondering whether any major players would be attending the upcoming Entertainment for All Expo. Now, we have learned that one of the key company’s in the console race have decided not to attend E For All. Last year at E For All we had a decent show now according to all the reports it looks like no one will be attending the event. According to GoNintendo, Nintendo was kind enough to provide a statement that tells us why they will not be attending the upcoming game event. “Nintendo has chosen not to participate in E for All, as it did not fit into our plans for the year. We wish the participants and show organizers good luck with the event.” said Nintendo. If this continues it looks like this years E For All will be very, very quiet.

At E3 when WiiMotionPlus was revealed not alot of game developers where ready for that announcement, but yet still the guys over at Ubisoft Montreuil where still willing to give the fans what they want. Now, almost 2 months later we have news of a release date gap for Ubisoft Montreuil’s upcoming video game, Red Steel 2. The game was originally planed for this winter, but because of the many changes made at E3 by Nintendo, i’m just guesting here, the game could release in that time line.

According to Ubisoft Montreuil, their upcoming game, Red Steel 2, is now planned for a winter 2009 release date, which will be just in time for the holidays. In an interview with GI.biz, Alain Corre stated that the game will be featuring the upcoming feature WiiMotionPlus. So expect to play this game with a new feel by next Christmas.

According to Kotaku, at 1pm Japan Time today, Square Enix will be outlining its plans for a friendly takeover Tecmo, which is having some trouble at this time. The Square Enix takeover should help the company gain a stronger foothold in the U.S. market with popular Tecmo titles like the Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive. This can also help Square Enix with their heavily dependent on RPGs.

This isn’t the first time Square Enix has moved in on a beleaguered company. In August 2005, Square Enix acquired Taito and wholly owned the company as a subsidiary by September 2005.
