According to Bloomberg, the rift was caused by consumers “shunning” Nintendo’s devices to play on Apple’s handheld platforms instead. However, President Satoru Iwata has stated that the company will only make titles for its own products as long as he’s in charge. But, with the recent flop of the 3DS, his business position may need to be changed.
“Smartphones are the new battlefield for the gaming industry,” added Masamitsu Ohki, a fund manager at Tokyo-based Stats Investment Management Co. “Nintendo should try to either buy its way into this platform or develop something totally new.” However, Nintendo has declined to comment to the reports.
But, Ohki isn’t alone in when it comes to stating that Nintendo should reconsider his business strategy. When The Pokemon Company announced that it was developing a title for iPhone and other handhelds running on Mountain View, it’s stock increased.
