Battlefield 3 To Be Scaled Down For Consoles

In a recent interview with GameZone, DICE studio head Patrick Bach discussed transferring Battlefield 3 onto console. Bach said that the biggest difference between the PC and console versions are shown in the multiplayer, down from 64 on the PC to just 24 on consoles.

“The biggest difference between the PC and console version of Battlefield 3 is that we have 64 players on PC and 24 players maximum on console.”

“The biggest difference between the PC and console version of Battlefield 3 is that we have 64 players on PC and 24 players maximum on console,” Bach said. “The rest is more or less the same: we use the same engine, the same technology, the same animation system, the same lighting system. Our aim is to give the player the exact same experience and not try to dumb down the console version.”

“If you want the same quality of game, I would say it’s really, really hard. We tried to get more players in [to the console version] but then you need to scale down all the graphics, scale down all the destructibility, and sometimes you need to scale down all the map sizes. Everything is a compromise on: where do you cut?”

“You could argue that other games do [fewer] players as well. There are games that do less, and there are games that do more. We don’t see games that have more players as a better experience, so having more players per se doesn’t automatically give you a better experience.”

Bash then outlined the differences in the map sizes on consoles when compared to the PC — the leading platform for development. “[We've] tried to compact them slightly to keep the action up. If you compare it to Battlefield: Bad Company 2, the maps weren’t really small on console. We actually had huge maps even for console. We have the same kind of angle on it right now [in Battlefield 3].”

“We want to create the same experience for PC as for consoles,” he continued.

No matter what you say Dice; this won’t be a game to get for consoles.

im still gonna get this game but i think ima like mw3 more if console version doesnt have jets or vehicles and stuff. i liked mw2 better than bfbc2. i was really really excited for bf3 but seems like each day something new comes out that ps3 gets scaled down or wont have same things as pc versions whats next? no vehicles. might as well get mw3

I do not think you have to worry about their not being vehicles , their are going to be all the vehicles that the PC has including jets( I know this because I have read other professional articles on other websites that have talked to DICE.). From what I have read the ground area on the maps is going to be smaller but the air area is the same size as the PC version, I don’t know how well this is going to work. Remember the director is saying they would have to sacrifice other areas of the game to get 64 players, so in order to keep around the same graphics, weapons, vehicles, the animation system, and all the other aspects of the game that add to the experiance DICE is sacrificing the amount of players to to have the same content the same as the PC. So please don’t lose hope. And if anything I have said does not make since leave me a message and I will get back to you as soon as possible!

im going to be getting this game on console. im not to fussed about what we may be missing out on, as long as the console version is still enjoyable thats all that matters.

also  in the alpha some players where saying that “operation metro” had to many players and it was near impossible to advance further than the park with that many players. im guessing this is a problem we wont have to worry about on console.

see console has its advantages too.

Yes this game has very vast area of action and other supported criteria. Very popular games it is. But one thing is that getting CD key of this at low price is not easy.
