Those planning on opting the digital version; be warned. As past reports stated, when introduced the “game install” feature, installing “may” affect in-game loading times — increasing them, instead of decreasing them. Now, according to , this hasn’t been fixed, and it “may” have an effect on the digital version.

“Halo 3 has undergone extensive testing to ensure that players will have a positive experience, whether the game is played from a DVD, or USB drive,” said Microsoft. “When installed to the 360 hard disk drive, players may experience longer than average mission and map load times, but regardless of where the game is installed, gameplay performance is not affected.”

I am confused by your use of the term “digital version”. All versions of the game are digital.

don't you mean “increasing them, instead of decreasing them”?

otherwise, LOL at loading from the hard drive taking longer than off a DVD…

when this first came out bungie put on announcement on the game when it accesses online stating that the game was never meant to be played from anything but the disc and they specifically said it would have longer load times if you installed on the hard drive. that was nearly 2 years ago now. so how is this making news?

Well, Bungie did say that it's better to use the disc as opposed to installing the game on your harddrive and this is basically the same concept.

I assume you mean that it will increase the load times and not decrease them?

The reason for the increased load time is because Halo makes good use of the DVD and the Harddrive by loading content from both at the same time which allows for quicker loads. If you remove the DVD then you lose the speed boost.

    It's not a bug, it's a feature.

Commonly, referring to a “digital” version of a game actually means a downloadable version, as opposed to a copy shipped on physical media. That should clear up the confusion for you.

Longer game loads is a big turnoff to many gamers. Hope this could be resolved.
