Pachter: “Sony Is Running Into A Brick Wall”

Though they’ve gained stability in the gaming market, Wedbush industry analyst Michael Pachter believes that, when it comes to the handheld market, is heading into a “brink wall” — considering that the recently tanked, and that other companies have been gaining an advantage in the handheld market.

According to our friends at TheLostGamer, while commending them for capturing an older audience in the handheld market, Pachter said that the PSP is “way more robust as a device than perhaps most consumers are ready for.”

The price point of the PSP Go has often been a sore point, and the fact that most PSP titles cost more than those available through places like iTunes, Pachter believes that “Sony is running into a brick wall” when it comes to garbing the attention of the consumer; Sony doesn’t make the pricing affordable to the consumer.

Sony took their market presence for granted and tried to push mediocre products on everyone assuming they would pony up for the Sony brand. I'm glad to see them flopping on some of this stuff; maybe they will get their head out of their ass and bring us something equivalent to the PS1 & 2 in the future.

The problem with the PSP is a US (and maybe European) issue.
Look at PSP sales in Japan. Look at the weekly top 10 software sales. The PSP does NOT have a problem in Japan.
Why does it take so long to get things like Ad Hock party here in the US? Very stupid. These are features that users want, and the code is already done. It is just lazy bahavior from Sony US.
PSP Mini's, these are OK, but cost too much. Make them from 1-5 dollars max.
Sony should hire 5 Computer science students and have them code a Facebook, a YouTube and a NetFlix front end onto the PSP. Make it the portable social networking tool.

Finally just give the stupid PSP SDK away. Charging for these development tools is not a business model that works in 2010.
Sony, you have the hardware now use it.
