have proven themselves as serious investors in . That said, in continuation of their digital business approach, , Wedbush industry analyst, revealed, at an investor event, Electronic Arts’ plans for a “premium downloadable content” — other-wise known as a paid downloadable content () — approach.

According to Pachter, the PDLC “would be sold for $10 or $15 through and , and would essentially be a very long game demo.” Electronic Arts vice president Jeff Brown later added that they’re “working on a number of projects for delivering premium content to consumers before, during, and after the launch of a packaged-goods version of the game”.

“A full-blown packaged game would follow shortly after the release of the PDLC, bearing a full retail price,” Pachter said. “Mr. Earl believes that the release of the PDLC first limits the risk of completing and marketing the full packaged version, and serves as a low-cost marketing tool.” The company also added that this business opposition will not replace the “traditionally free game demos.”

There is no way I am paying $10-$15 for a “long demo” and then paying $50-$60 for the whole game when it comes out like a month later. Unless they give me credit for the price paid for the demo, I will just save my money and wait the extra month or so.

Pay for the PDLC then get the Full Game then buy the DLC I hate this new money hoarding direction

$10-$15?! When I saw the headline on digg I expected maybe $3-$4, but this is just ludicrous! They are going to seriously rethink their approach when they make absolutely no money off of it, and if people do pay for it, well that just proves there are a lot of idiots in this world.

This would be really interesting if the Paid for Demo was actually DLC for the game. Imagine in a game like Fallout3 where you could purchase one of the DLC packages as a single long demo. Once you purchase the real game, you now own that DLC for the game.

Anything else I'd look at as a waste. If you pay $10 or $15 for a demo, that is really dumb. Get a Gamefly account, it would be a much better deal.

it be alright if u pay for the demo, then subtract the demo price from the PDLC and just pay the difference.

lol this sucks why pay for a demo…

i hope they still release normal free demo's.. ill play that to get the feel of a game..

oh and what EA does best… is release demo's of games after the release of the retail version.. so if you fix that you can see when a game doesn''t hit the right player mark

The biggest problem is that the game companies keep seeing the gamer as a cow that needs to be milked as much as possible as often as possible.I don't blame a company for trying to make money but every few months you hear (from what i listened to found by http://www.mp3hunting.com SE, the same concerns Ubisoft, Microsoft and other evil empires of the current gaming oligopoly) about some new scheme that serves to annoy and anger their customer base((
