Intended to compete with the popular Star Trek massive multiplayer online title, Bigpoint, a browser games portal, revealed its plans release a tactical space combat MMO based on the Battlestar Galactica series, Battlestar Galactica Online. The game, which will be introduced at the Game Developers Conference this week, is set to be released worldwide in August or September.
The Unity co-developed MMO will be the first title inspired by a blockbuster franchise to be developed on Unity technology, offering a game with state of the art graphics that can be played directly on an Internet browser; this independent engine makes it possible to produce real-time 3D applications without having to download a client.
“Battlestar Galactica has a huge and passionate fan base. We are proud to be able to publish such an internationally famous title as one of our online games. For the first time ever, we’re relying completely on Unity in order to offer our users fantastic game graphics right in their browsers,” explains Heiko Hubertz, founder of Bigpoint.
