To many, the previous installment was a disappointment. However, it seems that Zipper Interactive’s fixing to atone for the mistakes of developer Slant Six, who worked Confrontation. Because Sony have announced that Zipper’s developing the series’ next installment, SOCOM 4.
According to the PlayStation Europe Blog, the game takes place within South East Asia, where “a revolutionary army has seized control of a country bordering one of the world’s most vital waterways; threatening to disrupt the global economy.” Players will assume the role of the commander of a five-man squad of NATO commandos dispatched to prevent international trade from being disrupted. Their mission will only last six days, a time limit that Sony says will add urgency into the campaign.
As we come to expect from the series, this installment will have an extensive multiplayer component, allowing for 32-player matches. That said, Zipper Interactive are aiming for a fall released date, revealed community manager, Jeremy Dunham when responding to a fans question. “Yep. Coming out in the fall,” he said.
