Square Enix Has “No Plans” For FFXIII DLC

There’s no doubt that Final Fantasy XIII is a massive game; however, its developers don’t have any plans when it comes to adding to the experience. When being question about the games downloadable content, FFXIII’s producer and director revealed that they don’t have any plans for downloadable content.

“Regarding the DLC content, we feel that the final product is 100% enjoyable…it’s the complete package,” says Final Fantasy XIII producer, Yoshinori Kitase, and director, Motomu Toriyama in a joint statement — in a chat with the European PlayStation Blog.” So we’re not planning any DLC at this time.”

They also commented on recent rumours that content cuts from Final Fantasy XIII will be added as downloadable content.

“In regard to the rumoured cut content, we feel it was taken out of context,” explained Kitase and Toriyama. “There are a lot of ideas that are brought to the table, and then the team takes the best ideas out of those, and the final product is polished that way. There was content that were ‘ideas’ that didn’t make the final content, but the team isn’t looking to release that as downloadable content.”

That said, it’s understandable if Square doesn’t want to talk about downloadable content at this time. But, if there really isn’t going to be downloadable content, there’s going to be a lot of disappointed players. However, then again, Square could be messing with us — I just hope they are.

well, if they feel they've made the game as best they could who can complain? it's good to see that a lot of thought has gone into this game.

that said, everyone likes “extras”. so.. lets hope the game is good enough as is 🙂

  • I place more value in a game without DLC than one with. For DLC is moderately enjoyable at best and a greedy grab for nickels and dimes at worse.

oh no you mean they want me to buy the game alll at once instead of selling me a half finished product at full price and then forcing me to buy the rest in little pieces at a premium? This is horrible news indeed! Im so dissapointed!

Oh, thank God. DLC is one of the worst parts of the video game industry. Hopefully this starts a trend, and they stop half-assing video games and reselling what should've been in the final product.

I'm happy they aren't planning on DLC for a couple reasons, it means they are confident in their game, most of the time its just a money grab, and lastly I don't buy DLC unless it's a full expansion. I held onto FF2,3, 5, 7, 9, and tactics why shouldn't I with this.

Ok so say you DLC haters are happy with FF13 fully what do you do with it after you have mastered it.. ? play it again … ?
that's the real flaw in single player games.. FF13 is an awesome game with awesome story but its only interesting the first time threw, maybe i will play through it a second time for a perfect game with all items etc but after that there is nothing left to play for.. So I hope for DLC to be released steadily for all single player games i play .. yes the initial release needs to be the full game.. but in order to continue to enjoy a game I like to continually be able to get new DLC with new things to do and work towards so that a game i paid 60$ USD for will not sit on a shelf for the next two years after I beat it a couple times or end up at game stop being traded for something “New” to do. DLC can be an excellent add to any game and with a promises of DLC for games like final Fantasy 13 I would continue to keep it around for along time and be more then willing to pay for new content to add to the adventure.

I would agree with all of you saying DLC is a bad idea, but honestly this game just finished way too fast. 40 hours story play for me and i'm nearing the end of all the side missions / hunts with 62 on the clock. Most Final Fantasy games had truly amazing side stories / optional bosses / epic weapons to do, kill and obtain but this game is severely lacking. Think FFX, the airship.. unlimited exploration, think of getting all the ultimate weapons and their sigils / crests, dark aeons… FFXII there was a plethora of optional quests and bosses. My point being, DLC may not neccessarily be a bad idea for this game, I only wish they had of put more into the original game.

  • It is cool. I've seen the preview of the game: http://www.videorolls.com/watch/E3-09-Final-Fan… . It is awesome. Can't wait to play it!
