I hate exclusive content as much as the next guy, but really only when it's permasclusive (yeah I'm just making up words here). For the record, I have both a PS3 and a 360, this isn't fanboism. PS3 does some things way better than the 360, 360 does some things way better than the PS3. Now that that's out of the way, let's move on.

I was forced into buying AA for PS3 simply for the exclusive content, even though I prefer to game on 360. Obviously, this is what Sony was going for, and yeah nobody twisted my arm (at least not literally). But when I'm dropping $60 for a game, I prefer to get everything that was made for the game at release time. It's even worse these days as getting the complete game is nearly impossible in some cases (Exclusive content for buying from GameStop, exclusive content for buying from Best Buy…it's impossible short of buying two copies of the game to get the complete game at release). I'm so tired of having to research my purchase before buying it. Do I buy this game from GameStop or Best Buy? For PS3 or 360? Is there bonus content if I buy X game before Y game (a la Mass Effect 2 content for buying DA: O content)? ENOUGH! Just give me my freaking game already. The amount of time required to research has actually caused me to walk away from a purchase or two in the past, and the research required is going up by the day.

Having said that, I fully support MS's exclusive deals. It doesn't affect me either way, and yeah I'd probably be singing a different tune if I only had a PS3. But when it comes down to it, it's capitalism, love it or hate it. During the HD-DVD/Blu-Ray wars, I didn't resent Sony for winning out. I saved up my pennies, traded in a bunch of old games (and original Xbox), and bought a PS3. That's the way companies work. If you find yourself resenting the 360 because it has all the content, it might be a good idea to save up your pennies and add one to your shelf.

As much as I like the idea of competition between hardware rather than games it wouldn't happen. In the console market it's not like the PC market, because consoles aren't modular as PC's are. When consoles start selling as skeleton shells that we choose to put which video cards and such then it will be about hardware. Until then game sales is the only true way.

They were talking about the game Modern Warfare 2 selling 2-1 on the 360 over the PS3.

That has absolutely nothing to do with the red ring of death. If anything it says even more about the quality of the experience on 360 that people are willing to support it more even in the face of that certain console death.

Personally, I'd like to see it where the competition is between hardware rather than games. On PC the competition between hardware has created the exponential technological boom this decade.
