Square Enix “Aiming” For Three Disc FFXIII 360

With the overwhelming power it will take to run Final Fantasy XIII, Square Enix producer Yoshinori Kitase confirmed that the 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII will ship on multiple discs, as previously thought.

“This is not the final count as we’re still working on it, but we’re aiming for about three discs for the Xbox 360 version,” he stated when talking about the number of discs. After that, he then when on to assure that the two versions of the game will be practically identical, although he did concede that there will be “subtle differences” between the two.

“The 360 version and the PS3 version should be pretty much equal, both in terms of content and the visuals as well,” he continued. ”Since the hardware is different, there might be some subtle differences if you compare screenshots side by side, but the team’s being very careful about the compression of the data and the visuals, so that it’s exactly the same on both.”

hmmm, this must explain the recently released screenshots that seemingly showed a downgrade in the graphics when comparing screenshots from the past. Perhaps it was just the two different versions being compared side by side. Interesting...
  • 3 for ff7, 4 for ff8..

It is so interesting!!! I've read something of the kind (found at http://filesmixx.com ), but this article made me understand much more!
  • Why must they make them look identical? If the Xbox or PS3 version is going to look better than the other, why not? Why not use the systems to their respective potential?

Didn't Square Enix have some sort of pact with Sony to only produce their FF series on the PS3, or was that another company I'm thinking of?

Also, 3 discs seems kinda insane these days. Obviously not if you compare it to 4 and 5 discs for the previous console generation, but I thought the most we'd see these days is 2 discs. Then again, I'm not as much of a console gamer as I used to be. I am curious as to how many discs the PS3 version needed; just one?

The ps3 will probably only be one disc due to the fact that blu-ray discs can hold 25 gig to 50 gig compared to the xbox 360s 8.5 gig per disc so understandably the 360 will have more discs but will still have the same quality (to a point).
  • Does anyone remember how awesome the combat was done in the earliest of FFXIII trailers? The one where she fell from the sky and used Demi or Gravity on the enemies and stuff. If the game wasn't gonna be ported to the XBox 360, we would be seeing gameplay footage with that battle system probably. Damn XBox and their limitations. Micro$oft probably payed Square Enix extra to make sure they were as identical as possible. Hell, each extra disc is extra cost from the producer making the game, so I wonder how much the XBox version is gonna cost...

what a twat! dvds are much cheaper than blu-ray discs. and the cost of a dvd is too low for it to reflect or change the price of the game for xbox. u really are a total dumbass.
  • pklllll
You saying this is also admitting that microsoft blatantly rips customers off by charging 60 bucks per one dvd game. :p
