360 Outselling PS3 Two-To-One?

Microsoft has revealed the latest figures which was published by Chart Track revealing a massive 214% rise in sales for the Xbox 360 in the last two weeks. The console also outsold the PlayStation 3 by more than two-to-one in the UK.

Here’s what Chris Lewis, Vice President, Interactive Entertainment Business EMEA, had to say: “This data shows that the Xbox 360 trajectory continues upwards, and not just in the UK. We’ve seen uplift in all countries in Europe and are confident that even at this rate of growth we can keep retail satisfied with a steady supply of consoles throughout the Christmas season. Our commitment to continuously improving and innovating new content, our new high-profile marketing campaign and the fact that we’re now the best-value next-gen console on the market with an entry-level ERP of £129.99 combine to make Xbox 360 the right blend of gaming and wider experiences at the right price to offer unparalleled entertainment for everyone. And these figures prove it.”

  3. datshizz;

Actually, you get a brand new one for free when you RRoD. My 1st gen died two months ago with RRoD. Had a brand new one from Microsoft 10 days after I shipped the dead one(on their dime) to them.

    Nice try though.

Maybe a little more cheese with your whine, PS3 apologist?

  4. haha yeah, so don’t worry…

WHEN your 360 goes for it’s almost inevitable shit, you’ll get a new one for free.

PS3 is the higher quality console. Price is too high right now though. I’ll get a 360 UNTIL the ps3 drops.

  5. Probably because of the large global price drops and recent addition of features (netflix, etc), as well as the more efficient, cooler running, quieter, faster models. Microsoft always seems to initially release a bad product, but they make up for it in the next year or two.

  6. Wow, I am totally shcoked because I think the PS3 blows the 360 away! Maybe because the 360 is cheaper??

  9. Ofcourse Xbox 360 is overselling the PS3. Xbox 360 includes better games, xbox lives, and new updates. Only good thing PS3 has is Blue Ray.

  10. I hate these type of posts. Why is the 360 currently selling more consoles? A price drop made it more affordable than the PS3 at present, and no new console moving games have been released recently. The better games argument is questionable at best, the content quality of PSN is equal to that of Live and free, so the only difference between the two services seem to be the types of people you get to play with, and the PS3 is updated probably as frequently if not more frequently than the 360, with firmware 2.5 due out within the month and Home shortly after that.

So you could make a table…

    PS3
Good: Solid hardware, future proof, Bluray, open upgrades (HDD, linux), free online services, quality titles on psn, built in wifi, online video rentals.

Bad: Lack of console exclusives, price

    360
Good: lots of games, strong online presence, year head start, price

Bad: high rate of failure even amongst newer machines, online service isn’t free, limited by dvd, upgrades such as wifi or a bigger hdd are expensive, most people on xbox live are assholes (you know this is so true)

  11. I wouldn’t say it has anything to do with the quality of the console or the number of games. The fact is, there are a LOT of hold outs who don’t have the financial means to drop $400 on a console and $60 for every new game. However, $200 for a console+ the cost of a new hard drive+$60 for a samsung 360 drive (llama.com) or less from ebay+ flashed firmware+ sata pci card+free games for the entire run of the console+ multi platform games= Major Advantage (as long as you don’t mind possibly getting banned from Live, but it’s about the games themselves, not the 12 year old losers). This is the motivation a lot of people needed to jump on the next-gen band wagon. You still pay less than a ps3. 200+60+60+26= $346 before taxes. Not counting the cost of dual layer dvd’s and a burner if you don’t have one. But even if you go over $400, the money can be considered an investment. 1 new game, $60. A spindle of 25 DL discs, $24. Who’s the moron? And it’s the perfect way for ps3 fanboys to say they hate the 360, enjoy the games, and still say they’re screwing over Microsoft.

  12. Who Cares, its up the user in the end… I will never ever ever use a product from M$ and from the horror stories ive heard from friends about thier 360`s im sticking with my PS3 hasnt let me down one single day

  13. not that i care about the console war anymore (i grew up) but you sony fanboys still crack me up :)

  14. So sad seeing XBox fanboys and PS3 fanboys posting totally inaccurate and ridiculous quasi-ithinkso-facts about each other.

    They never get old!

  15. There’s no reason to play the fanboy role. The ps3 is a beautiful masterpiece of machinery that just needs a crap load more exclusives and a revamped network (HOME is pretty though). The wii is an innovative design that allows players to get absorbed into the game to a new degree, just needs to be 10x more powerful and to satisfy the non-kid friendly crowd. And the xbox 360 is a marvel of technological integration of online services, but Microsoft’s ego and under-handed tactics destroyed many peoples respect for the console.

  16. There is no need to trash talk either system. They are both great systems. I myself own a PS3 because I am a loyal customer for one and 2 I think it is a much more powerful system. Bluray is going to be huge. HD-DVD is on its way out. Technology isn’t quite up to date yet with the power the ps3 can unleash. You’ll see.

  17. I own both a 360 and a PS3 and the xbox is a far better games console. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t part with my PS3 for all the tea in China, it’s got blueray functionality and it plays Divx files right out the box, you can surf the net with it and you can even install Linux without violating the EULA or voiding your warranty. The fact Sony is quite happy to let you swap out your HDD without having to fork out for a specific PS3 branded one is also cool but these are secondary functions of what is supposed to be a games console. The severe lack of killer titles on PS3 is what puts the 360 ahead in terms of market share and usability. I’ve had my PS3 for about 9 months and I’ve been impressed by exactly 2 games MGS4 and Drakes Fortune. Resistance was a joke, Haze was awfull and Gran Turismo was nothing more than a glorified demo. Sony care not for their European market and it shows. On the otherhand the xbox has consistently turned out good solid games since it’s inception. Games like Gears of War, Bioshock, Halo 3 Dead Rising Forza2 the list is huge. Yes the Xbox has the red rings of death and they are infuriating, I’ve gone through 2 different 360’s and am now using a 3rd (an elite this time) but I’d still rather have a system that was unstable and had hardware issues than a stable platform with no games.

    Posted by Gaz | October 2, 2008, 7:43 AM
  18. The idiots that need to insult the system they don’t have are hilarious.

  19. Of course the Xbox 360 is outselling the PS3. The PlayStation 3 has significantly better hardware, but the Xbox 360 is winning in exclusive games, the online community, and now, the price.

Hopefully Sony has some “lessons learned” in exclusive games. Metal Gear Solid 4 spiked PS3 sales. Since then, no great exclusive has arrived. And now, previously exclusive PlayStation games are becoming exclusives on the Xbox… causing even the Japanese audience to jump on the Microsoft bandwagon.

Sony lost big this time around. Maybe next time.

  20. I take no real sides here. I own all 3 major consoles. I have also had a 360 RRoD on me as well. I had a launch console that made it to December of 2007 before dying. Now here’s the kicker. I bought a PS3 from Best Buy (60GB) in summer of 2007. It worked fine the first night I had it. Then wouldn’t even start up the next day. I couldn’t believe it. I will say that I have had good support experiences with both Sony and MS. MS did screw up, but at least they have the decency to suck it up and try to make it right. Back to gaming for me.

  22. It doesn’t surprise me that the 360 is KILLING the PS3 in sales… whats not to love about it? The ps3 has no GOOD features on it besides Blu-Ray. And PS3 is pretty complicated. Microsoft and Xbox will be FTW FOREVER!

    Posted by ME | October 2, 2008, 2:13 PM
  23. Oh, and I DO have both a PS3 and a 360.

  24. i have owned an xbox since launch and it hasnt ever failed me yet, has undergone constant punishment through travelling around in my car and god knows how many hours (i go hardcore haha), my mate has a ps3 and regrets it wishing he had bought a 360, i tired telling him so many times…

    Posted by Tunni666 | October 2, 2008, 4:53 PM
  25. I have owned an XBox 360 and I currently own a PS3. In terms of the NUMBER of games, yes the 360 beats out the PS3. But in terms of the games that I WANT to play…PS3 beats out the XBox any day.

I DO NOT like FPS games and the fact that the majority of the XBox exclusive games are FPS’s kinda bugs me. I also do not like racing games at all.

I like games like Folklore, Disgaea (any of them), Ratchet and Clank Future, etc. None of those are out for XBox.

    Posted by Trista | October 3, 2008, 11:14 AM
  26. I give it another year before PS3 will outsell the 360.
